Useful software for PDAs
(Windows Mobile)

All trademarks below acknowledged including all Microsoft trademarks.

All PDAs with Windows Mobile 5.0 or later already have lots of useful applications that support classwork, not least:
* Internet Explorer for browsing the web
* Word for reading stories and creating reports etc.
* Excel for calculations

The standard TRANSCRIBER facility is also excellent at reading handwriting, while the onscreen keyboard is well designed.

The software below has been chosen to add additional functionality to your PDAs. Many of the products are distributed by SUMS Online and Go Education plc in partnership, so call us for information or a quote. Others are completely independent of us however, and are included because we hear good reports of them from schools with PDA projects.

8. VPAD from TurningPoint
www.turningtechnologies.co.uk

Pupils have a copy of vPad on their PDA. You can ask your pupils open-ended questions, and the answers can be anywhere from one word long to an entire essay. This encourages your class to debate and share opinions.

A simple keyword tool can help teachers mark the open-ended questions. Pupils that are struggling can communicate with the teacher via vPad's text-messaging feature.

To use vPad, the teacher's computer and all pupil PDAs must sit together on a wireless network.
